Do you argue with yourself?

Do you argue with yourself?

I do. All the time.

"No, I don't want to do that."

"This isn't what I wanted."

"That's not how it's supposed to be."

"No!"

Like a petulant child, I dig in my heals and come up with all the reasons and justifications why not.

Depending on who is around me, I may get into an argument…

Who is to blame?

You see something sweet or pretty or funny and you smile and feel good. It is easy to assign responsibility for what you feel to what you see.

When something bad happens you look for whom or what to blame. And, when you find someone or something to blame, you feel better.

The curious thing about blame…

What can I do when my mind is flooded with thought?

Do you have the experience where you wake up and it feels like instantly your mind is filled with thinking?

You wake up flooded with thoughts of what you were thinking about when you went to bed.

Or, what you need to do today.

Or, just filled with random unrelated thoughts, like remnants of the dreams you had…

The mind is like water

Our clocks changed last weekend.

What was 5 am is now 6 am.

My current habit is that when I notice the time, I mentally dial it back an hour.

"It's 9:28 am. This was 8:28 am this time last week"

I go back and forth in my mind to try to get used to the new conditions that…

Imagining the perfect moment

I imagine in my mind, exactly how it should be. I picture all the details and exactly how each step should proceed.

I replay this in my mind, going over each move. And, I practice the physical motions until I know it and it becomes a part of me.

Athletes and performers know this works. The mental…

Practicing calmness

I hesitate to describe being in a state of calm as a practice. My experience has been that once you understand how the mind works, and that the state of calmness is innate, the notion of slowing down (to the speed of life) to be in this state will arise naturally in you.

Yet, the practice…

What is perfection?

When you look at a rose, what do you see? Or, a sunrise? Or, the ocean?

Is each not perfect?

Perhaps it is because they are not of you, so their perfection is easy to acknowledge.

What about things that you had a hand in?

If you are a parent, is your child not perfect?

Have you not prepared the…

From the heart

Have you ever stopped to consider what the phrase "from the heart" actually refers to?

Or, the word"heartfelt" for that matter?

This use of the word "heart" has little to do with your actual heart, an organ with a specific function.

This use of the word "heart" has meaning beyond your body. Though you can certainly feel it…

What is it about creating?

There is something ineffable that happens when you create.

When you create, something that didn't exist before is brought forth.

You bring it forth.

Your creation is uniquely your expression.

But there is something else that happens, too.

You feel differently.

You may not notice it at first, but when you practice expressing your creativity more often, you'll start to feel…

Thinking differently

You think differently.

How you see a thing is not the same as how others may see it.

How you interpret it, the meaning you give it, is based on your thinking and experiences.

You get into arguments because others do not see what you see, do not think and believe as you do.

This is natural.

How you see…

No matter the experience

Everything you do is an experience for you.

From the moment you wake-up to when you fall asleep (even as you sleep) everything is an experience.

The touch of your feet on the floor. The aroma of a fresh pot of coffee. The taste of buttered toast. The conversations you have. The sound of the rain.

Some experiences you move…

Searching for a feeling

How do you feel when you are in-sync with the rhythm of life?

When you are so engaged in something that you lose all track of time?

When you are in the zone?

How does it feel to you?

Joy? Contentment? Bliss?

Simply - it feels good.

Your search for this feeling, to try to recreate this feeling, leads to different…

Experiencing it all

Life is simple.

Each day, each moment, brings new experiences.

You create and experience your reality moment by moment.

In every moment there is the potential for new thinking -insight- which can change how you see things.

Which changes your reality.

You experience constant change.

Though "you" are immutable.

Who you really are is "the one" experiencing it all.

In all, we are…

"Slow down, you move too fast..."

"Slow down, you move too fast

You got to make the morning last"

The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy), Paul Simon
Lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group

It's funny, but whenever I think of these lyrics I always replace 'morning' with 'moment.'

This song comes to mind whenever I tell myself I need to slow down.

What are the signs…

Your thoughts, your feelings

Your feelings are your own.

When you feel happy or sad it is you feeling this.

Your feelings, arising from the thinking on your mind.

Happy thinking creates your happy feelings.

Sad thinking creates your sad feelings.

The language you've been taught to use to describe where your feelings are coming from is inaccurate.

"_________(fill-in the blank) made me happy" is…
